Standing waves forming on the Chattahoochee in Columbus

The Classic Family-friendly whitewater, real rapids.

The trip most people should start with. Base-flow water turns the course into a technical, splashy Class I-III+ run with named rapids, a lazy-river float, and a chance to surf a wave in your raft.

On the river

What you will run

Lively

Ambush

The opening rapid at the put-in. A quick right-then-left line around a rock wall wakes everyone up.

Turner's Tumbler

A bouncy series of waves that the outfitter lists as a Classic highlight.

Pemberton Falls

A boulder-studded drop that is technical at low water. Your guide will call hard forward strokes here.

Waveshaper

A 60-foot-wide adjustable structure installed during the restoration to shape the river into rideable waves.

Good Wave

A standing wave right beside the Georgia RiverWalk. Guides often "surf" the raft here, balancing on the wave without flipping.

Rapid difficulty on this course changes with dam releases. See each feature at low and high water on the rapid map.

Common questions

Is the Classic trip scary?
Not usually. It has real rapids and you will get soaked, but it runs at low water with a guide steering every raft. Most first-timers and kids 7 and up love it.
Does the Classic go over Cutbait?
The outfitter lists Ambush, Turner's Tumbler, Pemberton Falls, Waveshaper and Good Wave as Classic highlights. The big-water version of Cutbait is the Challenge trip's territory.
Can adults do the Classic?
Absolutely. Plenty of adult groups choose it for a fun, lower-intensity day, or pair it with the zipline.
How long does the whole Classic outing take?
Plan about 3 hours door to door: 30 minutes for check-in and gear, around 2 hours on the river, plus changing afterward.
